Provisions regarding the UCLG-MEWA Secretary General are stipulated in the following articles of the UCLG-MEWA Constitution:
THE SECRETARY GENERAL
Article 70
The Secretary General is the basic executive body of UCLG-MEWA. She/he directs the daily activities of UCLG-MEWA and carries out the decisions of the UCLG-MEWA General Assembly, the UCLG-MEWA Council and the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau. The Secretary General manages the Regional Section under the guidance of the Presidency and the UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau.
Article 71
The Secretary General is elected by the UCLG-MEWA Council for a term of the Presidency.
Article 72
The Secretary General is fully authorized for and in charge of the employment of the General Secretariat’s personnel.
Article 73
In his/her daily activities, the Secretary General has a general authorization to represent UCLG-MEWA on behalf of the UCLG-MEWA Presidency and UCLG-MEWA Executive Bureau. 15
Article 74
The Secretary General, as the legal representative of UCLG-MEWA, is authorised to work with banks and other credit institutions, to order payments and execute all kinds of contracts as allowed under civil, mercantile and administrative law.
The Secretary General may also represent UCLG-MEWA before public administrations and courts, and have power to appoint legal counsel and court attorneys.
