There will be three different segments taking place in Rio de Janeiro:
- 1) 13-15 June: Last round of talks on the outcomes of the Conference (third preparatory committee meeting).
- 2) 16-19 June: Civil society and local and regional authorities’ days
- 16-19 June: Civil society dialogues, organized by the Brasilian State in collaboration with the Rio+20 Secretariat: these four days will be devoted to dialogues among civil society organisations on identified issues (Food Security and Sustainable Agriculture; Sustainable Cities; Sustainable Energy; Freshwater and Sanitation; Green jobs and Employment; Blue economy and Oceans; Biodiversity, Forests and other Ecosystems; Green Industry, Material Efficiency and Waste minimization; Natural Disaster Preparedness). Outcomes of those meetings and debates shall be brought up to the Conference.
- 17 June: Local and regional authorities for a sustainable development; dialogues organized jointly by UCLG, UN-Habitat, the City of Rio and in partnership with other sister’s organizations.
- 18 June: UCLG Executive Bureau
- 3) 20-22 June, Rio+20 Summit. Special accreditation is required for this segment. There will be limited access of non-state actors to the Conference. Local and Regional Authorities are encouraged to request their national governments to be part of the national delegation, should they be interested in actively participating.
REGISTRATION
We kindly remind you that in order to attend the Rio+20 Conference (and the third preparatory committee meeting), you have to send us back the registration form attached with all the information requested before 30 April 2012.
In order to register the wider local authorities representatives’ delegation, and looking at the very limited accommodation capacities on those dates, we would like to invite you not to register delegations of more than 5 persons.
- We strongly recommend you to contact your national delegation and to request the inclusion of local government representatives.
- Logistical arrangements including hotel accommodation are now being looked at in collaboration with the city of Rio and we will provide more information as soon as possible.
Please do not hesitate contacting us should you have additional questions.
Sincerely
The UCLG World Secretariat
